England were the favorites going into this game and while they looked like they were heading for a win with Dier scoring on the 73th minute, Russia managed to tie the score in added time by a goal from Berezutski.
The Russian captain Vasili Berezutski has this to say —
“It is good that we managed to level it up at the end. Such a draw can be compared to a victory. We earned a point and it is very good that we have started the tournament with points on the board. It would be more difficult otherwise.”
Despite the loss England player Rooney was praised for his magnificent playmaking at midfield.
