UEFA EURO 2016 GROUP STAGE A – ALBANIA vs SWITZERLAND RECAP

Switzerland was able to score early in the game and looked like they coasted along the game while Albania was aggressive throughout the match but just couldn’t deliver.

As Switzerland notes —

“First we played with the tempo we wanted then we sat back a bit. We allowed the opposition to be a bit more aggressive. “The Albanians were a bit shocked after the goal and we were able to play with a bit more freedom, but they reacted well to the sending off. “I watched the Romania game yesterday. I saw France really struggling to beat them. They are very physical and well set up, but I always play to win.”

UEFA EURO 2016 GROUP STAGE A – FRANCE vs ROMANIA RECAP

The opening game is one of the most watched and electrifying matches in a tournament and the match between France and Romania didn’t disappoint. Romania came in the match as the underdogs and it could have been a lopsided victory for France but as it turns out the winner needed 89 minutes to secure the win.

France winning goal came from Dimitri Payet who had an unbelievable experience —

“If someone had told me that it was going to be like that tonight I don’t think I would have believed it. Yes we were a bit timid and afraid of making mistakes in the opening quarter. We came up against a side who were very good at defending. The crowd helped – we know how important the points were. Now we’re able to rest up and prepare for the second game. Had we won by two or three goals that might have misled us slightly. The fact we won like that shows there won’t be any easy matches and we have to go out and win matches.”

France coach Didier Deschamps has this to say —

“It’s good to have won. The Romania team aren’t easy to play against – and we knew that. We had chances, but we conceded a few as well. We had a bit of trouble letting our hair down, but we got our reward in the end. I made sure we played to win, with four attacking players on the pitch at the end. Given the context, an opening match is never easy.”

Romania coach has this to say —

“This game marks the start of a great competition, the greatest on our continent, the European Championship. We are up against one of the best teams in the tournament, among the favourites. I hope and believe our players will do their best to show everybody that we have a good team, a worthy team capable of putting in a good performance. The objective is to qualify, to get through the group, and make a very good impression at the same time.”
