NFL New England Patriots player Nate Ebner has been selected and named by USA Rugby men’s Sevens coach Mike Friday to represent the country at the Olympics in Brazil.

It has been 92 years since Rugby was included in the Olympic Games, the last in 1924 when the United States won the Gold medal, a time when each team had 15 players each compared to today’s 12.

Nate Ebner was chosen as he was a star rugby player throughout his childhood learning it from his father Jeff who played college rugby. His accolades in rugby include being the youngest player to play for USA Sevens team, was named the MVP of the under-19 Junior World Championships, and MVP of the under-20 World Championship the following year.

Nate transitioned to football at the Ohio State and was selected sixth-round draft pick in 2012 by the Patriots to join the Special teams.

Nate Ebner has the go ahead approval of Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

NFL congratulates Ebner as the only active NFL player to play in the Olympics:

Patriots are excited for Ebner:

Nate Ebner has been training with the U.S. team for four months now and upon his selection he could be the third player to have a Super Bowl ring and Olympic medal. The two other men are “Bullet” Bob Hayes, of the Super Bowl VI Dallas Cowboys and won two gold medals in sprinting in 1964, and former San Francisco 49ers Michael Carter, who won a silver medal in shot put at the 1984 Games.

Jahvid Best is another NFL player who played for the Detriot Lions and will represent St. Lucia in the 100 meter sprint.

Too Cold to Handle as the Red Sox-Indians Opening Game Postponed

in MLB

The Cleveland Indians postponed their season opener as the temperature went down to 30s and kept dropping and will resume today April 5, a day later. The announcement didn’t come any sooner as fans were already outside the stadium freezing and all ready to watch the game.

Cleveland Indians could have made the decision a lot earlier to spare the freezing fans outside the stadium waiting to get in and the season opener.

David Price who signed as a free agent in December for the Boston Red Sox to a whopping $217 million dollars will have to wait another day to show what he is worth.

The first pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm on April 5, Tuesday and hopefully the forecast for partly cloudy skies will not delay or postpone the game anymore.

According to the clubs’ official announcement — “Today’s game was postponed due to the forecast changing from no precipitation to having precipitation most of the afternoon and into early evening. That steady precipitation forecast combined with wind chills dropping into the teens, it was decided by both teams and umpires for fan comfort and player safety to postpone the game. Tomorrow’s forecast will continue to be cold, but no anticipated precipitation.”

It is the second time that the Indians postponed their season opener in the last 9 years when a snowstorm stopped a four-game series against Seattle in 2007.

Lake Hodges Mud Run
Lake Hodges Mud Run

Are you ready to get dirty and have lots of fun at the Rancho Bernardo Community Park? A popular 5k mud run fundraiser which is now called Lake Hodges Obstacle Run will be held at 18448 W. Bernardo Drive on April 24, Sunday. The event is going to have two waves of runners, the first one will start at 8 a.m. and the last one at 11:30 a.m.

Mud run usually have a starting wave of 7 a.m. and numerous waves are dispatched every 15 minutes. I am not sure why they only have two waves.

Organizers advise to arrive at least 45 minutes before your planned wave but I would suggest a minimum of 60 minutes to account for long lines at the registration or parking.

The cost for this event is $20 for kids and students below 18 and must be accompanied by an adult. If you register before April 12 the cost for adults is $35 and active military duty is $30; after April 12, the cost will increase by $5 — $40 for adults and $35 for active military duty. Teams of four or more participants will save $5 per person.

Since this a fundraiser mud run, the beneficiaries this year are as follows: Chaparral Elementary, Del Norte High School ASB, Del Norte High School Athletics, Maranatha Christian Schools, Mt. Carmel High School Lacrosse, Poway High School ASB, Poway High School Athletics, Rancho Bernardo High School ASB, Rancho Bernardo High School Athletics, Rancho Bernardo High School Friends of the Library, St. Michael’s School, Travis Manion Foundation, Westview High School and Westview High School Lacrosse. The beneficiary also include a non-school — Travis Manion Foundation which is an organization that assists American veterans and the families of fallen heroes.

The Lake Hodges mud run is a 3.1 mile course that will have more than 20 obstacles but you have the option to skip the obstacles without penalty as the primary goal for this mud run is to have fun as indicated by organizer Dennis Yeatman.

Participants can wear their school colors or any funny outfit and should bring clean clothes, towel and slip-on shoes as there is a designated place to clean up. Check-in for items is also available and participants are reminded to seal their valuables or electronic items in a plastic bag and placed inside another bag.

For inquiries or to sign up an organization for a future mud run, contact Yeatman at 858-245-0319.
