Just by watching this video, you can clearly understand why people hated the Warriors' decision to poach Kevin Durant from the Thunder. It wasn't just about removing a lot of excitement from the league; it was about depriving other, fairly-built teams and their leaders a chance to cement their legacies.
This team is the biggest example. The 2018 Rockets were one of the greatest teams in NBA history despite not winning the championship. Just by watching them go toe-to-toe with the unfair KD Warriors, you just know that they would've steamrolled the fair, pre-KD version. Don't let the Warriors' Game 6 win in 2019 fool you; one game is not equivalent to a seven-game series, and the 2019 Rockets, while still being an elite team, were a shadow of their 2018 selves.
The 2018 Rockets deserved to cruise to the title with little resistance, and they were robbed of that opportunity due to the Warriors organization essentially cheating thanks to a fluke cap spike in the summer of 2016.

The one year they had the depth and all their players in their prime. Injuries to CP and Mbah a Moute took away the last bit of advantage they had against the all-time great Warriors. Pair that with a terrible shooting night in a game 7 and some questionable officiating, and luck has it that they would miss their window of opportunity smh. What could have been.
